The Original Chocolate Biscuit Cake
Ingredients:
Method:
  1. Grease and line a 21cm x 10cm loaf tin. Melt the Copha in a microwave on high or in a saucepan until completely melted
  2. Sift the icing sugar and cocoa powder into a large bowl. Add the egg, vanilla and cream and mix well. Gradually add the melted Copha and stir until completely combined. Keep warm
  3. Brush the biscuits with the extra cream
  4. Pour ¾ cup of the chocolate Copha mixture into the base of the tin. Place 4 biscuits in an even layer on top. Spoon over ½ cup of chocolate Copha mixture. Repeat with remaining biscuits and chocolate Copha mixture
  5. Cover with plastic wrap and put in the fridge to set for 2 hours. Remove from fridge about 30 minutes before serving allowing the chocolate to soften making it easier to slice. Top with chocolate curls, to serve
Tips & Hints:
  • To make the chocolate curls, spread the white chocolate over a piece of dry marble or the back of a baking tray. Set aside until just set. Spread the dark chocolate over a piece of dry marble or the back of a baking tray. Set aside until just set. Using a pallet knife or chef’s knife, scrape the chocolate away from you to create curls. You can freeze any extra curls to dress up cakes and slices

This old tried but true Chocolate biscuit cake recipe is easy and very moreish! I.e. one slice will never be enough. Don’t say you were not warned. I think the origin of this recipe could be a northern European country. Certainly this recipe bring back lots of wonderful memories of my mother as now aged 81 I have happily been “reunited” with this family favourite! Enjoy

About to give Chocolate biscuit cake a go. I am 72 also and not had this for what seems like 100 years and I could eat the whole lot way back then so goodness knows what will happen. A long tummy rest the next day me thinks as cant wait. Mum used to leave biscuits out ( covered) overnight to soften, I am guessing that it what extra milk in this recipe does. Know I will love it. Have to borrow a tin from neighbour and dont have sifter anymore, but I dont care, cant’t wait! Intend sharing with neighbours but ..........

I have been trying to find this recipe for ages. My mother used to make it. I loved it as a child. Hope I can do it justice.
