Ardmona's Basic Tomato Sauce is so versatile! Use it as the base of a classic margherita pizza to feed the hungry troops!

Pizza

Ingredients

  • 2 large fresh pizza bases
  • 1 cup Basic Tomato Sauce
  • 220g tub bocconcini cheese, drained & torn into pieces
  • Basil leaves, to serve


Method

  1. Preheat oven to 220°C/200°C fan-forced
  2. Place pizza bases on baking trays
  3. Spread tomato sauce over pizzas
  4. Scatter over bocconcini
  5. Bake for 10-15 minutes until bases are crisp and cheese melts
  6. Sprinkle with basil leaves, season and serve


Basic Tomato Sauce

Ingredients

  • 2 tbs olive oil
  • 2 brown onions, finely chopped
  • 4 garlic cloves, finely chopped
  • 1/3 cup tomato paste
  • 4 x 400g cans Ardmona Whole Tomatoes
  • 2 tsp sugar


Method

  1. Heat oil in a large saucepan over medium-low heat. Add onions and garlic. Cook, stirring often, for 8-10 minutes until very soft
  2. Increase heat to medium-high. Stir in tomato paste. Cook, stirring, for 1 minute. Reduce heat to medium.
  3. Add tomatoes and sugar. Using a wooden spoon, break up the whole tomatoes by pressing tomatoes against the side of the pan
  4. Gently simmer, uncovered and stirring occasionally, for 30-35 minutes until thick. Season to taste and serve

  1. Basic Tomato Sauce Prep Time: 10 minutes Cook Time: 50 minutes Makes: 6 cups
  2. This recipe uses only 2 cups of Basic Tomato Sauce. Use leftover sauce for other amazing Ardmona recipes.
  3. Keep the sauce in airtight containers and refrigerate for up to 1 week or freeze until required.
