What does hoisin and garlic sauce taste like?
This is a thick, dark and rich sauce. Hoisin is made from fermented black beans, which gives it a distinct sweet and tangy flavour with lots of umami. Garlic adds a depth of flavour, and soy sauce adds extra salt and umami. It's very flavourful and pairs especially well with meats and vegetables, including chicken, pork, beef, duck and seafood.
Passage to Asia's sauces are also all gluten free (thanks to the use of gluten-free soy sauce) and the Hoisin and Garlic Stir-fry Sauce is also suitable for vegetarians and vegans.

This 6 ingredient recipe is so easy. Add the sauce directly to your chicken wings as a marinade, bake it and enjoy! You can marinate other chicken pieces here too, like drumsticks and thigh cutlets. Just adjust the time so they cook through.
You can use this sauce anywhere that you would use a flavourful marinade. Try using it on skewers, diced beef, fish fillets or even tofu.
Slow cooker chicken noodle salad
Add chicken thighs and a packet of Hoisin & Garlic sauce to your slow cooker for tender, flavourful, pull-apart chicken. Add these to noodles and fresh vegetables and you have an incredibly easy chicken noodle salad!
This sauce would also be delicious for Asian-style slow cooker meatballs or slow cooker pork ribs.
Hoisin and garlic stir-fry
This stir-fry only takes about 15-20 minutes, and is one of the quickest ways to use this sauce.
- First, heat up a tablespoon on oil and sear 600g of sliced chicken, beef or pork in a pan.
- Add 2 cups of mixed vegetables (try Asian broccoli, bok choy, snow peas and carrots) and cook for 2-3 minutes before pouring in your packet of sauce.
- Cook for another 2-3 minutes, or until the meat is cooked through and the vegetables are crisp-tender.
Change it up by using any combination of your favourite proteins and vegetables. Pork with baby corn, capsicum and broccolini works well, or try firm tofu with red onion, sugar snap peas and cauliflower.
