10 ideas with flour tortillas

If you have lots of leftover flour tortillas from taco night that you’re trying to use up, these fun and easy tortilla ideas will make your day. Here are 10 ideas and recipes that you can whip up to put those tortillas to good use!

Tortilla chips

This is one of the easiest ideas to get started. Cut the tortilla into triangles (slice them like you’d cut a birthday cake). Brush with olive oil or butter, season with salt and optional spices such as paprika or cumin, and toast in the oven at 180°C for 6-7 minutes or until golden and crisp. You can also fry them in a bit of oil in a pan. Enjoy as is or with your favourite dips, salsa or guacamole.

Mexican lasagne

If you have heaps of tortillas to use up, try this super fun idea. Taking inspiration from lasagne, use tortillas instead of lasagne sheets and layer them with beef mince, Perfect Italiano Mexican Style Cheese, beans, corn and rice for a hearty meal.

Tortilla pies

If you have little tortillas, pop them in your pie maker to make tortilla pies! Microwave tortillas for 15-30 seconds to soften, then press them into the pie maker or muffin tins. Crack in an egg, then top with Perfect Italiano Mexican Style Cheese and chopped ham. You can also pop in any extra taco toppings and salsa. Cook for about 8 minutes or until the egg is cooked to your liking. Delicious little tortilla pies.

Cheesy enchiladas

Tortilla packages full of chicken, rice and cheese, topped with tomatoes and lots of golden bubbling Mexican Style Cheese… this one will feed the family and possibly make the weekly rotation. Click to get the full Chicken and Rice Enchiladas recipe.

Tortilla bowls

Warm the tortillas in the microwave for 15-30 seconds, then wrap a around the outside of an upturned muffin tin. Spray with olive oil spray, then bake at 180°C for about 8 minutes or until golden and crisp. Let stand for 2-3 minutes, then fill with leftover taco toppings or your favourite salad.

Tortilla pizzas

This idea is especially good if your tortillas are quite stale and break when you fold them. Simply spread with salsa, top with Perfect Italiano Mexican Style cheese, add your favourite pizza toppings and bake at 180°C for 10-15 minutes or until the cheese is golden and melted. This is great as a quick snack or lunchbox filler, especially if you like thin and crispy pizza crust.

Tiktok tortilla hack

This viral hack will bring your wrap game to another level. Take a tortilla and slice it from the centre outward. Then, fill each quarter with different toppings including Mexican Style Cheese. Fold it in quarters, and it creates a great little pouch that holds heaps of fillings with ease! No more awkwardly spilling ingredients. Toast in a sandwich press or in a pan and enjoy. See how to fold it below.
