How to cut a pineapple

Method

  1. Turn the pineapple on its side, cut off the top and cut off the bottom and discard.
  2. You now have a stable base, so stand it upright. This makes it easier to cut off the skin and edges. Run the knife down the sides of the pineapple to remove skin and eyes.
  3. Slice the peeled pineapple into four pieces and remove the core from each piece.
  4. Now slice each section into one centimetre chunks.

Always use a large, sharp knife for cutting pineapple. The tough skin requires a sharp knife to make it both safer and easier for you. A small knife can be more dangerous as it won’t give you enough leverage and can slip easily.

The skin and cores can be discarded or used in your compost. If your pineapple has a leafy top, you can plant this in soil up to the base of its leaves and keep it moist to grow into a new plant. It can take 6-8 weeks for roots to develop, but you'll be rewarded with a leafy pineapple plant.
